Brazil's current account deficit narrowed to US$ 5.1 billion in September from US$ 8.8 billion a year earlier, Suno reports.

The trade surplus in the same data rose to US$ 6.9 billion from US$ 2.5 billion, with exports up 12.9%. Direct investment for the month more than covered the deficit.

Why it mattersDirect investment above the deficit means the external accounts are being financed by long-term money.
